A day in the life of...Julie Covell

About Julie:

Julie ‘the Alpaca lady’ Covell, has worked in the education sector for over 30 years, in a wide range of roles and varied background. Julie began her career in a school nursery and has been working to support early year’s providers for 12 years during her time with North Yorkshire County Council.

As the name suggests, outside of work Julie is an Alpaca breeder, with 19 Alpacas, and more on the way later this year. If that’s not enough she also has four pigmy goats, two dogs and plenty of chickens!

The role:

Julie has been with NYES for five years as a Client Relationship Manager. In this role she is responsible for meeting the needs of her portfolio of schools, academies and special schools by ensuring they have the services they need to support pupils to achieve the best outcomes.

Julie also looks after all Early Years settings and childminders across North Yorkshire and beyond, using her vast knowledge and experience to help providers from all areas to find the right level of support and service expertise.

A day in the life:

After a nice hot brew and a very early check in (normally before 6.00am) on the animals, Julie starts her working day by picking up and resolving any enquiries from her customers; either by phone, email or a school visit.

School visits provide the opportunity for Julie to catch up with school staff and find out what’s happening in the school; where there are opportunities to celebrate and where there are challenges. She can then advise on a range of products and services that can be provided to support the school or setting to help achieve the best outcomes for pupils.

After visits, Julie will often call into the central NYES office to catch up with the team and work on a wide range of different projects including supporting schools through the academy conversion process; working with them to ensure that all aspects of the process go smoothly and they have continuity of service across all areas. Julie might then attend a service update meeting, enabling her to keep up to speed with the latest developments across the organisation and provide the most up to date information to her customers.

Finally, Julie will catch up on admin for the day before heading home to get the animals fed, watered and ready for bed.
