Department for Education award NYES SRMA contract

North Yorkshire Education Services’ (NYES) Financial Management Service (FMS) was awarded a contract by the Department for Education (DfE) to act as School Resource Management Advisers (SRMA) late last year, supporting schools and academies to manage and maintain financial health.

The DfE has previously run a pilot through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for SRMAs in conjunction with the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL) and is now in a position to roll this support out nationally. A key component of the SRMA approach is the systematic analysis of curriculum and financial planning (ICFP) to optimise teacher deployment.

The DfE initiative is seen as a major development in the schools and academies market, NYES is one of just nine leading education sector providers to be appointed to work with schools and academies as SRMAs;  to review their financial health and to support them in the development of sustainable budget plans for the future.

Sally Dunn, FMS Team Manager commented: “offering this service on behalf of the DfE is a great opportunity for NYES. The contract award from the DfE is a reflection of the skills and expertise that exist within our team and our understanding of the financial challenges currently facing schools and academies.”

Stacey Burlet, Commercial Director for NYES added: “we understand the needs of the education sector and we see this development as a real opportunity for us to support an ever developing market, making sure that school and academy financial management supports the delivery of their strategic plans to maximise the outcomes for all pupils”.

During January the first 5 NYES SRMA’s successfully achieved accreditation with the DFE and are now actively working on deployments to support schools around the region.

NYES has a proven track record in applying ICFP within schools and academies and is looking forward to the application of this within the DFE project. NYES is also looking at developing bespoke ICFP consultancy to be offered to all schools and academies, for example this could be as a one/two day package.
