Ian Bangay

Ian has an impressive musical background – a student at the Junior College of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and a graduate of Leeds University and the Royal College of Music, Ian also studied trombone with the well-known John Iveson.

Notably, he was a founder member of the National Festival Orchestra and has also performed with orchestras and bands including The Wallace Collection and Grimethorpe Colliery Band, and the orchestras of London Festival Ballet, Opera North, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and D’Oyly Carte.

Since 2008, Ian has been Head of the Music Service. He is in charge of a team of over 70 teachers delivering instrumental lessons to pupils and schools across the county. Having been a school teacher himself, Ian’s role now sees him helping over 7,500 pupils access Music Service activities every week.

Away from the day job, Ian is a keen composer and has had compositions performed on Spanish TV!
