Becky Crossley, SCOTY winner

North Yorkshire Catering Chef is top of the SCOTY!

North Yorkshire Catering is celebrating today after one of its top Chef's was named Regional Chef of the Year at a hotly contested event in Barnsley earlier this week.

The LACA School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) competition, sponsored by McDougalls who are owned by Premier Foods, is an annual event that sees the best school Chefs from all areas battle it out to win the award for their region.

Surpassing the competition for the Yorkshire and Humber region, Becky Crossley, Kitchen Manager at York High School delivered an outstanding two course York themed meal for four people in just an hour and a half in the Masterchef style event.

With a budget of £1.30 for each two course meal, dishes had to be based around the Healthy Eating Plate and the School Food Standards and aimed specifically at pupils in Year 6/7.

Becky's York themed meal of Eburacum Burger, York Tower Potatoes, Yorkshire Salad and Coleslaw (a Yorkshire twist on a classic burger served with lightly spiced potatoes, Yorkshire Salad and Coleslaw) accompanied by Strawberry Minster Mousse (a light strawberry mousse with a layer of strawberries and jelly topped with a crunchy crumble topping) really hit the spot!

Becky commented "I'm used to the everyday pressure of preparing and cooking 400 meals with the help of my team but this was a completely different challenge. Having the judges watching everything you do and being up against some of the best school cooks in the sector was a little daunting but at the same time so exciting. Winning an award like this is amazing".

Shaun Mancrief, Head of North Yorkshire Catering added "This is a huge achievement for Becky and is a strong demonstration of the fantastic work she, and the rest of the team, put in to preparing and cooking meals for school children every day. Being named SCOTY for her region is testament to her hard work and dedication and helps to showcase the exceptional delivery of meals from our chefs and their teams in schools across the region".

Becky will go on to compete at the national finals in Stratford-upon-Avon on 5 March - good luck!!!
